Are you off on your own little adventure around the world? If so, then it might be a good idea to equip yourself with a variety of handy travel gadgets. Of course, if you’re off out exploring the great outdoors and abandoning all of the world’s technology, then this article probably isn’t designed for you. For those of you who plan to hop from one hostel to the next, then strap yourselves in tight for the ultimate six must-have travel gadgets!

  • Universal power adapter

Imagine hitting the road only to have your phone run out of power! Now imagine that you don’t have the right wall socket to charge it up! – Oh no! This gadget is absolutely essential for saving space from a range of different wall sockets and guaranteeing to keep all of your little gadgets powered up. Plus they won’t take up too much space in your backpack!

  •  Compact camera

Obviously if you are off sightseeing, you are going to want, no, NEED a good compact camera! I mean c’mon, five years down the line you are probably going to want to look back on the awesome trip you had. The fantastic thing about compact cameras is that they are small, light and easy to carry around – much better than lugging around one of those big £500 SLR’s! Easy to carry and with enough space to save all of those memorable moments from around the globe, a compact camera is a definite must have.

Think this is an unnecessary item? Well, you will soon be thanking me when you are sitting through a noisy bus or plane journey in peace. Of course it is a good idea to look out for a set of headphones that are compatible with your chosen airlines headphone jacks.

  • E-reader

Okay, so it probably is quite an expensive item to just go ahead and buy, but if you own one then definitely go ahead and pack that baby away. They are lightweight, easy to use and battery power usually lasts for weeks on end! Long flights can often be an absolute nightmare, especially when you are off to somewhere like Australia and you have to contend with Pixar movies for the entire flight. You are much better off reading a nice book on your E-reader, making the journey much less painful. They are also handy to have since it is much better than packing away several bulky travel guides!

If you are a woman and you are feeling a little uneasy about staying in strange hostels all alone, then this brilliant piece of gadgetry should give you peace of mind. It simply slots under the door and emits an incredibly loud siren when an unwanted creep tries to let himself in. It can’t hurt to always have a little security whilst you travel.

  • Mobile Phone

Ah yes, the all important mobile phone! However, I definitely don’t advise that you take a £300 smartphone with you whilst you traverse the unknown. It’s just sods law that you will probably lose it or stand out to thieves and opportunists. All you really need is a cheap little mobile for emergencies and what not.
